Terms and Conditions of Service

Effective Date: April 1, 2026  |  Last Updated: April 11, 2026

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the NA phoneline and
text-messaging services (“Service”) operated by the
Martha’s Vineyard Area of Narcotics Anonymous (MVANA),
accessible at www.mvana.org.

By calling or texting our phoneline, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree,
please do not use the Service.

In a crisis? If you or someone else is in immediate danger,
please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
Our phoneline is staffed by NA member volunteers and is not a substitute for
emergency services or licensed clinical care.

1. Purpose of the Service

The MVANA phoneline is a free, volunteer-operated helpline provided as a service of
Narcotics Anonymous. Its purpose is to:

  • Connect individuals seeking recovery from addiction with NA member volunteers
  • Provide information about local NA meetings, events, and resources
  • Offer peer support and encouragement to those interested in the NA program

This Service is provided by volunteers who are themselves members of Narcotics Anonymous.
It is not a professional counseling, medical, or crisis intervention service.

2. Eligibility and Use

The Service is available to anyone seeking information about Narcotics Anonymous or
peer support in recovery, at no cost to the caller or texter. There are no eligibility
restrictions based on age, location, or background.

Acceptable uses of this Service include:

  • Asking for NA meeting schedules, locations, or online meeting links
  • Requesting to speak with an NA member for peer support
  • Asking general questions about the NA program and fellowship

The following uses are not permitted:

  • Harassment, threats, or abusive language directed at volunteers
  • Using the Service for commercial solicitation or spam
  • Attempting to obtain medications, substances, or medical advice
  • Any unlawful purpose

3. SMS / Text Messaging Terms

If you text our service number, the following terms apply:

or automated messages providing meeting information and NA resources.

    conversation thread.
  • Cost: There is no charge from MVANA for this service.
Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.
  • Opt-out: Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe.
You will receive one confirmation message, then no further texts.

for short codes is not guaranteed. Carriers are not liable for delayed or
    undelivered messages.

4. Volunteer Nature of the Service

This Service is staffed by NA member volunteers. We make every reasonable effort to
ensure calls and texts are answered promptly, but we cannot guarantee:

  • Immediate response at all hours
  • Uninterrupted availability of the Service
  • That any particular volunteer will be available at any given time

If you are unable to reach a volunteer, we encourage you to visit
www.na.org for meeting finder resources,
or call a friend in recovery.

5. No Professional Services

Nothing provided through this Service constitutes medical advice, mental health
counseling, substance use treatment, or crisis intervention. NA member volunteers
share their personal experience, strength, and hope in accordance with the
traditions of Narcotics Anonymous. They are not licensed professionals and
cannot diagnose, treat, or prescribe.

If you require professional clinical care, please contact a licensed provider,
call SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 (free, confidential,
24/7), or go to your nearest emergency room.

6. Anonymity

Anonymity is a spiritual foundation of Narcotics Anonymous. You are never required
to give your name or any identifying information to use this Service. Our volunteers
are expected to maintain the anonymity of everyone who contacts the phoneline,
in accordance with NA’s Twelfth Tradition.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis. MVANA makes no
warranties, express or implied, regarding the reliability, availability, accuracy,
or fitness of the Service for any particular purpose.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MVANA, its service committee members, and
its volunteers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or
consequential damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — this Service.

9. Privacy

Your use of this Service is also governed by our
Privacy Policy,
which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page
with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes are
posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

to its conflict-of-law provisions.
